Simon Kalbhenn, cello

Michael Horwath first started learning the violin at the age of six in his hometown Berlin before changing the instrument and learning the viola at the Carl-Phillip-Emanuel-Bach Gymnasium. He studied the viola at the famous Musikhocheschule Hanns Eisler Berlin with professor Felix Schwartz. He finished his studies at Weimar Music University with professor Erich Krüger. As a laureat of the important „Jugend musiziert“ competition he also joined masterclasses of famous viola teachers like Jürgen Kussmaul, Kim Kashkashian, Thomas Riebl and Norbert Brainin Since 2000 he is a member of Staatskapelle Dresden where he helds the position as assistant principal viola since 2004. Furthermore he is a member of the Fritz Busch quartet. As soloist and chamber musician he is a guest at prestigious festivals like Schwetzinger Festspiele, Easter Festival Salzburg, Richard Strauss Festival and the Bayreuth Festival and appears often at the Festival „Concerts aux Iles du Bic“ in Canada. Michael Horvath plays a viola italian maker Mantegazza from early 18th century.
