Jonatha Nuss, trombone

Jonathan Nuss, born in 1992, started to play the trombone at the age of 12. He had been chosen to already study at the age of 15 at the University for Music in Detmold with Prof. David Bruchez He continued his studies as a pre-student at the Music University Cologne under Prof. Ulrich Flad and Carsten Luz. Upon his completion of pre-student programme, Jonathan continued to do his Bachelor degree in classical trombone in Cologne. He completed his studies with Prof. Ian Bousfield at the University for the Arts in Bern, Switzerland. Later he was a member of the „Giuseppe Sinopoli Academy“ of Staatskapelle Dresden. Jonathan is the winner of several first prizes in german music competitions, has been a finalist in the Jeju International Brass Competition in 2015 and won a first prize at the Music University Cologne. As guest principal trombone he performes with orchestras such as WDR Symphony Orchestra, Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, Hamburg State Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. After working as Principal trombone with Sinfonieorchester Aachen and Radio Broadcast Orchestra Cologne Jonathan Nuss is the Principal Trombone at Staatskapelle Dresden since 2018. In November 2019 he made his solo debut with the Staatskapelle Dresden, performing Derek Bourgeois Trombone Concerto.
