Meet the members of Staatskapelle Dresden!

Founded 1548 Staatskapelle Dresden is one of the oldest and most traditional orchestras in the world. The ensemble used to play together since almost 500years, without any interruption!

In its unique history the orchestra was led by the most important musicians of their time including Heinrich Schütz, Carl Maria von Weber or Richard Wagner, who called the orchestra his „miracolous harp“ Richard Strauss and the Staatskapelle were closely linked for more than sixty years. Most of his operas have been premiered in Dresden, while Strauss’s »Alpine Symphony« was dedicated to the orchestra. The long list of prominent conductors leading the orchetra include Karl Böhm, Fritz Busch, Otto Klemperer, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Herbert Blomstedt and Christian Thielemann as present chief conductor.

In 2007 the Staatskapelle became the first – and so far only – orchestra to be awarded the »Prize for the Preservation of the World’s Musical Heritage«.
